Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does iGlasses work with Snow Leopard?

A: The current version of iGlasses works in Snow Leopard. For iChat, QuickTime Player, Safari and Photo Booth, it is necessary to use Snow Leopard's 32-bit compatibility option.

Q: How do I enable and disable 32-bit compatibility mode?

A: The iGlasses installer will offer to automatically enable compatibility mode for iChat, Photo Booth, Safari and QuickTime Player. Upon uninstalling iGlasses, the uninstaller will return these applications to 64-bit mode. To enable and disable 32-bit mode manually, select the desired application icon in the Finder, choose "Get Info" from the File menu, and select the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox.

Q: Why is 32-bit compatibility mode needed? Do you have plans for a 64-bit compatible iGlasses?

A: iGlasses loads into applications using a method which is not available in Snow Leopard's 64-bit frameworks. As a result, iGlasses will not show up in 64-bit applications. We are working on a new iGlasses which will not require 32-bit compatibility mode. It is due out later in 2010.

Q: If I previously purchased iGlasses, do I have to pay again to get the latest version?

A: Upgrades for our shareware products are always free for registered users! You'll receive notifications of new versions by email.

Q: I bought iGlasses but now I've lost my registration information. How can I download a full version?

A: Use the Lost Registration form and we'll email your registration information to you.

Q: Is iGlasses compatible with Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard)?

A: Yes, it is compatible.

Q: Does iGlasses work with DV camcorders?

A: No, DV sources are not supported. For information on supported cameras, please see the requirements page.

Q: Is Macro Focus or Focus available with the built-in iSights?

A: The built-in iSights don't have focusing capability. These cameras have a fixed focus lens with no moving parts and should always be in focus between 5 cms and infinity. If your built-in iSight seems out of focus, make sure the plastic lens is clean.

Q: Can I "turn-off" iGlasses for programs in which I do not want it to appear?

A: Yes. iGlasses Manager, installed into the Applications folder, will let you easily select which programs are enabled for iGlasses.

Q: Do you offer volume discounts for iGlasses?

A: Yes, please refer to the volume-pricing schedule. Discounts will be reflected in your shopping cart automatically.

Q: How do I uninstall iGlasses?

A: To uninstall iGlasses, run the "Install iGlasses" program included in the zip file. Click "Uninstall".

Q: What programs does iGlasses work with?

A: A full list of compatible programs can be found on the compatible apps page. If you have a favorite program that's not on our list, drop us a note and we'll try and add support in a future update of iGlasses.

Q: Does this work with the built-in iSight?

A: Yes. iGlasses works with the built-in iSight.

Q: I want to use SecuritySpy to control more than one camera. Can iGlasses handle this?

A: Not at this time. iGlasses is designed to control only one camera at a time.

Q: I've installed iGlasses and now I can't find the iGlasses window. Where did it go?

A: In iChat, look in the Video menu for "iGlasses Settings". In other programs, check the File menu.

Q: Why are the Rotate and Mirror options grayed out?

A: Rotate and mirror functionality is not available in SecuritySpy. Also, 90° rotation is not available in iMovie HD. If these conditions don't apply, make sure you're running the latest version of iGlasses.

Q: Which languages are included with iGlasses?

A: iGlasses is partially translated into Dutch, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Swedish.

Q: What is White Balance?

A: Depending how you're being lit, your picture might have a yellow or blue cast to it. White Balance allows you to compensate for this color tint. For example, if you're in a dark room being lit only by the light from your screen, your picture probably has a blue tint. By adjusting the White Balance slider, you can remove the blue and make the picture look more natural. Read more about white balance adjustment here.

Q: What is SW Brightness and SW Contrast?

A: SW stands for software. The normal Brightness control turns up the brightness on the iSight hardware itself, raising the sensitivity of the camera. SW Brightness brightens the image using your computer's CPU, adjusting the image much the same way you would raise the brightness on a photograph using iPhoto.
